How do you see or how do you place Cuban art in the art world today?

For me, Cuba is the center of the artistic universe right now, but in reality small numbers of contemporary Cuban artworks are just starting to show up on the secondary market at both Philips and Christies. More and more artists are being picked up by galleries and included in group shows. Cuban art remains a curiosity to most in the United States. Europe and Latin America have been aware for a long time about the quality of art produced on the island, but due to the embargo we have mostly missed out on the day-to-day developments.

How do you see Cuban art in the future?

It is difficult to predict the coming Cuban art scene. Certainly, Cuban art will continue to draw a larger audience worldwide, and increase in visibility at art fairs and galleries and in value as new markets proliferate. Intrepid collectors and those who find their way to Cuba from the USA or other places will continue to fall in love with the art created by the deep talent that lives and trains in Cuba and within its art school.
